Mie JETs Website
From Mie Guidebook
Mie JETs, or miejets.org, is a web domain that houses an international community of people living in Mie Prefecture, Japan. It has an active forum, a Guidebook, a phone list, an events calendar, and more.
The site was originally created in 2005 by Dave Kerr, is owned by Mie AJET, and currently run by Jeff Case. Its purpose is to provide support and networking for English speakers in Mie. Despite the name of the site and the fact that some of the content is specifically crafted for JET Program participants, the site's usership is by no means limited to JETs -- all are welcome.
Section of the Site
- Guidebook
- Resource library for all manner of information regarding Mie Prefecture, created with English-speaking international residents in mind. More of a living guide than a travel guide.
- Forum
- An active phpbb forum. This is what the site was originally created for, an the other sections and pages were created around the forum. With over 7,500 posts per year for over five years, our forum is one of the most active in all of Japan amongst the prefectural JET/AJET websites.
- Groups
- Part of the forum. They are mini-forums for specialized topics that don't clearly fit into one of the existing forum categories. Users can join and leave groups as they see fit, and create new groups for topics of interest that don't already have their own group.
- Events
- An event calendar that allows users to add and view events. Upcoming events are displayed on the forum's top page. Contains an e-vite system as well.
- Phone List
- Mie JETs phone directory. Only available to current Mie JETs and specially-approved private teachers or ex-pats living in Mie.
- Photos
- Picture archive of local festivals, AJET events, etc. Users can upload pictures.
- Mie AJET
- A small informational page introducing the current members of AJET and their roles within the organization.
- Mobile Version
- A scaled-down mobile-browser friendly version of the site. The provided functions are designed to allow people to confirm things they may have read on the regular site but want to check. Thus the mobile site provides access to the Guidebook, a phone list search feature, and an upcoming event listing.
